26 PARTICIPANTS TRAINED ON SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY

26 participants from Karagwe, Mwanza, Magu and Ukerewe have awarded certificates after successfully completed Social Accountability Course.

The course which were jointly conducted by MS-Training Centre for Development Co-operation Arusha, Tanzania (MS-TCDC) and Forum Syd, took place in Mwanza at La Kairo Hotel from July 18 to 29, 2011.

Participants were two local government’s social welfares from each mentioned districts, Kivulini Women’s Rights Organization, Faith based organization-East of Lake Victoria Diocese (ELVT-ELVD), Magu Civil Society Organization Network (MACSONET), and Huruma Peace Mess Foundation (HUPEMEF)

Others were Mzeituni Foundation, Karagwe Community Based Rehabilitation (KCBR), Karagwe Radio, Karagwe Development Association (KARADEA), Magu Poverty Focus on Old People Rehabilitation Center (MAPERECE), Environmental Management and Economic Development Organization (EMEDO) and Vijana nje ya shule Nyanguge with two representatives each.

Overall Objective of training was to impart participants’ knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for promoting social accountability and enhance their capacity to empower citizens to raise their voices; access public information; and increase influence in negotiations and issues affecting their lives.

Specific objectives were knowledge; participants were expected to get knowledge to social accountability context, concepts and approaches used in promoting the issue.

Apart from knowledge, participants learned various skills for various methods, techniques and tools in analyzing, planning, implementing and monitoring the quality and quantity of public resources and services.

Concerning the attitude and influence, participants are expected to facilitate mobilization, advocate and demand for transparency and accountability in the management of public resources and services.

In addition, themes on gender and civic engagement, budgeting process, Public Expenditure and Services Tracking (PET and PIMA) were presented and discussed. Participants also had the opportunity to visit Magu district to exercise PETS and PIMA.

The course ended by each participant presenting action project plan to be implemented in their respective areas.
